Mola mola Sunning
A CASE STUDY IN MOLA MOLA THERMAL RESPONSE
The deep sea ocean can be a difficult environment for marine life to regulate its internal temperature. Yet the Mola mola fish has devised a manner in which heat transfer from the sun can augment internal temperature. By combing the radiative flux from the sun to its highly absorbing skin and the thin layer of upper heated sea water, increased heat transfer to the fish can be accomplished.
COMERI’s research plan is to:
-
Construct a computational, multi-physics model including thermal radiation, fluid flow, and convecting coupling to a thermal response model.
